Miscellaneous Religion and Social Service
- The expenditure incurred as donations for Improvements and provision of Shrine Rooms, Monastery fences, Dagabas etc. for adjoining temples exceeds rupees 06 Million.
- Provision of a Ward to the Dambulla General Hospital for the use of Monks at a cost of rupees 3.5 Million through Temple Charitable Grants.
- Formation of a Crematorium that was a pressing need for monks of Dambulla Chapter and which maintained by the RDDF.
- The State sector has programmed to re inhabit those who vacated residence due to Dambulla Sacred area at Etawarahena, 05 kilo meters away from Dambulla. Most venerable Mahanayaka thera on behalf of the villagers donated about 100 acres of temple land and awakened a consolidative village named Nava Padeniya to rid the encumbered villagers.
- Allocation of Temple land and arrangements with the co-ordination of the Central Cultural Fund and Urban Development Department and on humanitarian grounds had put up permanent Sales outlets for the temporary traders of Dambulla Vihara Maluwa and of Dambulla rock slopes, those who were informed of the implementation of Dambulla Sacred Area and to vacate their residence within 24 hours without any compensation.
- Temple lands had been distributed and villages established to about 2,000 families who were destituted over the 1983 North and East terrorist activities. Their dwelling, education and welfare had been looked into and had become permanent residents of Dambulla at present.
- Buddhist Societies and Death Donation Societies of the area are being developed and basic needs fulfilled.
- Dambulla is a low developed area without proper access roads to their villages. Preparation of roads with provision of necessary culverts and crossings are being attended to guided by the temple.
- A Fund has been organized in favour of victims of Fire disaster, Floods, Cyclones etc. to meet their urgent needs.
The foregoing is a brief description of the services rendered by the Golden Temple, Dambulla. These activities will be carried out continuously and more will be added in the future with the theme Temple to the Village.
